Improve Workplace Confidence with Daily Affirmations
Available opportunities to grow in your career can seem endless. From taking part in professional development, continuing medical education, mentorships, and volunteering, there are many things as a hospitalist that you can do to increase your confidence as a practitioner. Although each of the above are great additions to reaching your professional goals, they ultimately take you away from actually performing your job. On the contrary, there is something simpler that you can do daily that may boost your self-certainty, and it doesn’t involve taking time away from the office.
Taking a few minutes out of each day to practice positive and personal affirmations can help you challenge your negative thoughts, increase your confidence, and help you feel calmer and more prepared to tackle anything that comes your way. Creating and practicing daily affirmations for yourself does not have to be a difficult or intimidating process. By following a few guidelines, you can take your personal and professional attitude to a whole new and exciting level.
Get Detailed
When it comes to creating daily affirmations that you can realistically stick to, you must be specific. Instead of employing generic statements like, “I am powerful and confident,” try creating affirmations that target specific areas of your personality like, “I am grateful for all that I have, including my family, friends, profession, and patients.” Other examples could be, “I am led by my own positivity, not by what others say or think about me,” or “I may face obstacles today, including pessimistic coworkers, or dissatisfied patients, but I will remain cheerful,” or “I will try my best to finish everything I started today; but if an interruption comes along that needs my attention, I will focus on what matters most of me and feel good about my decision with no regrets.”
The more particular you can be when outlining your daily affirmations, the better.
Speak With Authority
When you are thinking about or speaking your affirmations into existence, you must own them as if they are already true. If you go into your affirmations with a mindset of apprehension, it will be that much more difficult to believe in yourself. It is recommended that you write your affirmations down in a notebook or other easily accessible space and look at yourself in the mirror while stating them out loud.
By speaking your affirmations out loud with a voice of conviction and authority, as well as visualizing them as if they have already come to pass, your success rate of believing in yourself will grow exponentially.
Be Consistent
Perhaps one of the most important details when it comes to carrying out personal affirmations is consistency. You could have the best intensions, aspirations, and affirmations, however, if you fail to put them into practice on a daily basis, they are simply wasted ambitions. The best way to stay consistent is to set modest, yet practical affirmations that you know you will be able to attain every day. As you conquer these, and your confidence begins to grow, you can begin adding more complex affirmations to your agenda. You will find that as you become more familiar with this type of mindset, practicing positive affirmations will become second nature and not so foreign. Not only will you notice a difference in yourself, but your colleagues will likely notice something different in you too. Don’t be surprised if they want your advice on how to mimic your forward-looking habits.
Positive affirmations are so appealing because they are accessible, manageable, and are something you can work on at any time in the privacy of your own space. Additionally, they cost nothing but small amounts of time, and are items you can take with you wherever you go.
If you haven’t already, consider putting daily affirmations to the test – we believe you will be amazed at the mighty impact they will have on you and your team.
